Welcome to the Alma Tavern & Theatre
Part of the Zazu's Pubs family, we're pleased to be part of a group of amazing Bristol pubs including the Greenbank, the Knowle, the Westbury Park Pub & Kitchen, the Eastfield Pub and the brand new Jolly Sailor!
The kitchen is open and we're serving classic pub grub, delicious stone-baked pizzas and a huge range of drinks.
With ever changing gins and beers, a delicious wine menu and locally roast coffee from Extract (St. Werburghs) , we've got a tipple for all palates, all times of the day.
Upstairs we have an intimate 50 seat theatre with performances showing approximately 48 weeks of the year. Find out more here.
And what's more, our top floor houses 5 luxury double en suite Airbnb rooms.
Feel free to drop us an email or give us a ring for future bookings and enquiries; or just pop in and say hi!

On Alma Vale Road, in the heart of Clifton
Tucked between Clifton Village and Whiteladies Road, the Alma sits on Alma Vale Road — a short stroll from Clifton Down, the Suspension Bridge and the boutiques of The Mall. It's a proper neighbourhood local first, and a destination second.
The building has stood here for well over a century. What began life as two separate bars has grown into a pub, a 48-seat theatre and five boutique suites stacked across three floors — all under one characterful roof.

A Clifton institution with a creative heart
Honest, freshly cooked food
Classic pub fare, stone-baked pizzas and a seasonal menu cooked from scratch in the Alma kitchen, with local produce wherever possible.
A 48-seat pub theatre
One of the oldest pub theatres in the South West, championing new writing from the Bristol scene alongside classic texts and touring shows.
Weddings with character
A proper pub wedding, tailored to you — ceilidh, karaoke, cheese-cake or all three. No two Alma weddings are the same.
A proper neighbourhood local
Ever-changing gins and beers, a well-chosen wine list and locally roasted Extract coffee, all in a characterful Clifton setting.
Five boutique suites upstairs
Stylish en-suite rooms equidistant from Clifton Village and Whiteladies Road — check in from 3pm, check out by 11am.
A pub, a theatre and a little bit more
From long Sunday lunches to world-premiere theatre and weddings in the bar — there is more to the Alma than first meets the eye.
Classic pub fare, stone-baked pizzas & a proper cellar
Our kitchen cooks from scratch daily — unpretentious classic pub fare alongside stone-baked pizzas made with the best local produce. Seasonal menus change regularly, so there's always something new to try.
Behind the bar you'll find ever-changing gins and beers, a well-chosen wine list and locally roasted Extract coffee from St Werburghs — a tipple for every palate, any time of day.
