What's On at the Alma Theatre This Season

Back to the Journal

A new season upstairs at Bristol's oldest pub theatre — world premieres, classic texts and the best of Bristol's scene in a 48-seat black box.

The curtain is up, the stair lights are on, and a new season is underway upstairs at the Alma Theatre. We programme roughly 48 weeks of the year, and this season is shaping up to be one of our most varied yet — a mix of new writing from the Bristol scene, classic texts from our in-house company Schoolhouse Productions, and touring shows from companies we have long admired.

A space like no other

Up a narrow, characterful staircase, our 48-seat black box is one of the most intimate venues in the city. There is no bad seat, and the atmosphere is closer to a friend's front room than a formal auditorium. It is the kind of room where a quiet two-hander lands beautifully — and where a sold-out comedy feels like the best night out in Clifton.

Make a night of it

If you fancy coming to watch a show, why not make a night of it with 25% off your pre-theatre meal? Booking is essential — tell us in the comments that you are dining pre-theatre and leave yourself no less than 1.5 hours before curtain. You are welcome to take a drink upstairs with you; just arrive around 15 minutes early to settle in.

Tickets go through Ticket Tailor via the theatre page, and if a show sells out you can join the waitlist on the listing to hear about returns. We can't wait to see you upstairs.
