Behind the Bar: Sourcing Coffee from Extract in St Werburghs
Why our post-lunch flat whites come from a small roastery a mile across the city — and why local sourcing matters behind the bar.
People think of a pub and they think of pints. But a good chunk of our day happens before noon — flat whites, long blacks, a slow catch-up in a corner — and the coffee behind those cups matters to us as much as the beer.
Why Extract
Our beans come from Extract, a small roastery over in St Werburghs. They roast in small batches, they know their growers, and the coffee is consistently excellent. Locally roasted means it is fresh when it reaches us, and supporting a Bristol business that does things properly feels like the right reflection of how we want to run the Alma.
A tipple for all palates
It is the same thinking behind the rest of the bar — ever-changing gins and beers, a wine list we actually think about, and Extract coffee to see you through to the evening. You can get a feel for the whole lot on our menus page, or simply come in and ask what's new this week.
